This is Volume 1 of the remarkable series of articles penned by Jack Mayfield that describe the life, history and people of Lafayette County and Oxford, Mississippi. This first volume contains 102 articles. These first appeared in local publications and became "the stuff that legends are made of." The articles range from history to people and places; always with something of local color that revolves around Oxford or the University of Mississippi.
There are now six volumes of his work that compile the articles along with a topical index in each for easier reference. These (Vol 1) "Sense of Place" articles were originally published in 2004, 2005 and 2006. See below for samples.
