These are abstracts of some of the earliest probate court records in Lafayette County, Mississippi. The were transcribed directly from the original documents and often identify what other documents were in the file (receipts, inventories, etc.). Often, these are the first recoded names of some of the enslaved people in the county at the time and therefore, can help to identify a person to a surname. Probate records sometimes can be overwhelming to research without abstacts such as those found in this helpful volume.
